Off The Wall

One of the events that happens every year at the same time as Artweeks is the Brookes Degree Show - this showcases the work of the Oxford Brookes University Fine Art Graduates of 2016.

The show is held at Venue 13 in Headington - Richard Hamilton Building and the Glass Tank in the Abercrombie Building on the Oxford Brookes Headington Campus.

This year the show runs from May 13th – May 20th (10-6 each day ) - with late night opening until 7 on Thursday 19th May.

There is more information about the show on the Artweeks website and on the Off The Wall website

Angela Beatson Wood

Angela's painting and drawings are concerned with the cultural differences discovered when travelling, traditions that have lasted for thousands of years and to emphasise the contrast with the uniformity of globalisation where these traditions are threatened.

This painting is called Homage to Luang Prabang. It shows a Lao BUDDHA with the background taken from a temple in Luang Prabang.

Ross Mackenzie

Ross Mackenzie is a wild places photographer based in Headington.  Ross specialises in cold remote places.  He has made numerous trips to the Arctic and to the South Atlantic and Antarctic, and spends as much time as he can exploring the wilder (northern) parts of the UK.

This is Ross’ third Artweeks exhibition, and this year he has chosen to present a series of panoramic images which give a sense of the openness of many of the remote places he has photographed both in Scotland and further afield.

Loch Avon, Cairngorms
Baffin Bay, Canada
Northwest Passage, Canada
Ilulissat, Greenland

Ross is a long time supporter of the John Muir Trust, of the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) and of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RPSB). This year he will be donating 10% of all Artweeks sales to the RSPB to help their work in protecting puffins which were recently added to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Suzanne Bridgewater

This is Suzanne's first year participating in Artweeks, she will be exhibiting at Venue 14 on Ferry Road in Marston.

Standing Tall

"I work as a sculptor and painter and things are coming together for Artweeks. This is my first year exhibiting and I am finding it exciting developing new work and revisiting old. This sculpture 'Standing Tall' shows how I work with recycled materials. Cardboard has been painted, covered in plaster and stands on slate."

Cheerful Start
"My paintings often explore change based on past history and events. This one 'Cheerful Start' grew from an abstracted painting of the face of a young baby and includes Polaroid snaps of the baby taken in 1950."

Jane Strother

2016 is Jane's 22nd consecutive Artweeks exhibition!

Jane always aims to show new work and pieces from previous years and encourages viewers to browse her sketchbooks too.

She varies the media she uses, from oils, acrylics to mixed media collagraph and drypoint etching prints and the results are naturally wide ranging in their appearance. They reflect her love of landscape, being in the weather, noticing the changes.

You can see more of Jane's images at www.janestrother.co.uk and at www.facebook.com/janestrotherpainterteacher

Jane is one of the finalists in the Poseytude Gallery Change the World Competition!  The finalists exhibit at the Town Hall Gallery throughout Artworks, opening on Thursday 4th May.
